Wednesday

It's DECEMBER 1st!

Wow, how time flies! As Al so cleverly just stated, "We are in the first day of the last month of the end of a decade!" Geeez!

It's hard to believe another whole month has escaped the blogosphere! Apologies indeed. The holiday season is upon us, and the elves have been hard at work getting all of the fun new goods onto display! Cinnamon and pine linger in the air and that gentle white light glow is peeking up from the most unexpected places!

The crazy Charleston weather has even teamed up with Winter - Brrr! It's cold out there! - and those temps are expected to get even lower as the week moves along! What a perfect excuse to come in and curl up on one of our comfy sofas...of course you will fall in love and have to take it home!

While you're here, be sure to ask for some holiday parking passes so that you can continue your downtown holiday shopping without worrying about those feisty meter officers - this is no time for parking tickets! The passes are courtesy of the city and give you two free hours of parking - anywhere! Don't forget to park in our customer parking lot off of Reid Street when you are shopping with us though ;)

And one more thing... Watch out for Buster - he likes those shiny things on a string!

BAD dog!!!

THE TRANSFORMATION!

We're still busy as bees around here, and here are some updates on what we've been doing!

If you have ever come through our side door, you know how it unfortunately became the catch-all. Everything from UPS deliveries, to random sale items, to mismatched outdoor pieces were strewn about the awkward entryway. And who could forget the awful white peg board?! The crime scene was growing more and more gory, so we said, "ENOUGH!" ...and an amazing transformation got under way! This fairytale fix was led by our design team, and the hard labor seemed effortless as our warehouse team downed that old peg board and swiftly filled the space with gorgeous furniture fit for Cinderella herself! Here's a look at the process, but to really appreciate this makeover...you must come in and see for yourself!

Now let's talk about the patio room! If you've taken a walk down King Street in the last week, perhaps you took a peek at the new vibe we've been creating in this outdoor haven. Burlap is the main ingredient and hanging white lanterns are the icing... and of course, TEAK is the main character! The  textural ambience and comforting warmth really make this room one of our new favorite spots to hang!

Last, but certainly not least, is the NEW ROOM we BUILT on our third floor! We really do have a crew of all trades around here...and once we get an idea in our heads, there is really no stopping us! This room only took our warehouse team a few days to construct and complete - they threw up drywall and broke out the paint brushes like total pros! New outdoor pieces and Debby's Chicago Market-inspired visions brought the newly redone square footage to life...come in and take an elevator trip to this peaceful outdoor oasis!

Saturday

MARKETS, PRE-MARKETS, AND SALES...OH MY!!

Hello everyone! So sorry for being MIA on the blogosphere - We've been busy around here!

The buying crew has been checking out all of Fall's hot designs at pre-markets, and the bounty is rolling in on trucks left and right! Debby made Morris Sokol's first appearance at the Outdoor Market in Chicago, and came home to the Lowcountry with lots of fresh inspirations. The floor is shifting and changing by the minute...in fact, you may not recognize the place once we've finished!

We've also been making some pretty noticeable additions and  even performing a few  simple "facelifts" all over the showroom... check out the new glow in the front window!

Our Colors of Summer campaign wrapped up in September, and the winner was announced a few weeks ago... we can't wait to see what they choose! Keep your eyes open for more exciting offers and new campaigns. You will also be seeing Morris Sokol delivering a presence in the previously uncharted waters of skirt! and appearing in Style & Design as well as Home & Design.

Sales have been popping up faster than the weeds! In case you missed it, the HUGE sale event put on by Lux Arts Sales and held in the old Meddin warehouse building across from us was very well received.

We had 2,700 sq. ft. of floor space filled with discounted merchandise. Our accomplices in the sale included GDC,  ESD, Circa Lighting, Lulan, and more!

October is here! Which means two things; Halloween is heading right at us and it's Breast Cancer Awareness month! Fantastic job to the shops on King who have adorned their windows with clever signs of pink appreciation!

We unveiled our pink doors and window boxes to all (Morris, the dog helped), thanks to our very talented artist in residence, Chris!
Stay tuned for more updates and inside peeks at what's happening with the store transformation.
We won't leave you in the cold...promise!

Thursday

SOME MARKET GOODIES - NOW ON OUR FLOOR!

Joe, Freida, and Chris sure did a number at the April Market in Hickory, NC! They walked the enormous showrooms tirelessly over their three day spree, scoping out all of the hot new trend items and hip pieces. By all accounts, attendance was up from previous markets - just ask Freida how she gracefully maneuvered her way through the masses! Actually, the increase in buyers is a great sign for the biz! Furniture Today had some positive stats to boast - check out their article! So of course, you must come see all of the fruits of their labor...market goodies are coming in and hitting the floor daily!

Friday

OUTDOOR ENTERTAINING

The weather has been amazing the last few weeks, and we've all enjoyed spending time outside (minus the whole pollen issue!). Spring is definitely underway, and Summer is close on its heels...so make sure your outdoor spaces are ready for some entertaining! We have some gorgeous new patio sets and separates on the floor along with great accessories for all of those cookouts and garden parties that make this time of year so exciting. Here's a little peak...

BRIDGE RUN 2010

What a great day it was on Upper King! The 2010 Cooper River Bridge Run brought the route back to King Street; taking the runners off of Meeting Street, and guiding them onto King just North of our store! The hilarious costumes & high spirits of the runners were amazing! Bands & locals cheered from sidewalks as the masses pushed their way through the city. Thanks to those who helped bring the route back to King... and EXCELLENT job, runners!!

    WEIGHT A MINUTE....

    STEP
      RIGHT
       UP...

    NOBODY'S  WATCHING!

There is an interesting phenomenon going on here in Morris Sokol - it seems that a "doctor's scale" is totally irresistible to the unsuspecting customer. Now I have an advantageous view, so I've really gotten to study this intriguing behavior.

There are two basic weighing types...

First, you have the "sly scaler". This weight curious creature seems to be unaware of the big white scale until the most opportune moment. Usually a browser, probably thinking something like....ooo, nice mirror...maybe I could put this sea grass in my foyer...I like this lam- SCALE! hmm, what is a scale doing here? Then the "sly scaler" ever so casually glances around, not drawing attention, but obviously checking to see if anyone is watching...little do they know, I am! After confirming that they're in the clear, they slowwwly step on - oops! ...jingled the metal sliders too loud! Ok, no one is looking...hmmm...does that say...? And then there is usually a look of total devastation or smug indifference, occasionally there is smile.

The second weigher is the "Professional Pound Puncher." This one has no time to waste. As soon as he/she spots the scale, it's GO TIME! Sometimes it even seems like they knew the big white tower would be waiting on them. Quick and steady with anxious curiosity, the "Triple P" hops on gracefully. Skilled fingers glide the balancing hooks along the bar effortlessly and with great speed. There is usually no look of surprise once the number has been determined - this one knows their weight, he/she is just a compulsive weigher. Satisfied and affirmed, the "Triple P" hops off just as gracefully as he/she hopped on, and is off to browse the rest of the inventory!

.........ok, maybe I have too much time on my hands.

SPRING MIX - AND WE'RE NOT TALKIN' LETTUCE!

If you've not caught on to the latest word trend, you're not minding your "P's" and "Q's"! Word Art is a hot new sensation,  spelling its way into  our showrooms and homes. Playful phrases and common cliches are being etched onto everything from  new canvas to  salvaged old wood, and becoming electrifying statement pieces. Retro patterns and big florals are hot on fabrics, welcoming Spring with a color bursting "heyyy!"

    SPRING HAS SPRUNG!

What a beautiful weekend we just had! Finally, some Carolina sunshine to heat up our lowcountry after these low temps we've been battling! The BB&T Wine & Food Festival was a huge success, bringing lots of happy tourists to our friendly city. Hopefully you noticed our outdoor display...somebody sure did, as evidenced by the crab legs remnants!

    HUGS FOR HAITI

Please join us in our Hugs For Haiti campaign, and bring a stuffed animal to our in-store donation basket to be donated to the children of Haiti. There are countless drives collecting monetary and supply donations, but do not underestimate the importance of comfort. We do not know the joy that a simple toy may bring, and in the wake of these tragic circumstances, wouldn't it be nice to bring a smile to these little faces?! So again, we welcome you to join in our effort to keep these children in our hearts, and send our love from afar.

    SALE OF THE SEASON!

That's right...the little warehouse sale that was born 2 years ago, and has since become a sale-sation across the lowcountry! Inquiring minds have been calling all Fall to beg the question, "when is the warehouse sale?!" We changed things up on you a bit this Winter, and brought the sale to the showroom. In an effort to keep our bargain shoppers warm and comfortable, we displayed crazy mark downs all over both floors of our King Street store, even opening the on-site warehouse to the anxious sale hunters! We are pleased to say it was a success, and no one went home empty handed! We even extended the sale through a second weekend (previously unheard of!).

If you didn't make it over for the official sale, no worries - you have not missed the mark [down!]. We need to create more space for new arrivals, so come in to see mark-downs hitting the floor daily!
